1968 Mercedes- Benz 300 SEL 6.3 (W109)
Paperwork up to date
On offer is the mighty full sized luxury performance sedan that was produced from 1968-1973.
AMG prior to the 300SEL 6.3 was a separate company to Mercedes…much like Brabus is to Mercedes today. This model was the first in-house collaboration whereby Mercedes and AMG worked together to bring out a super fast saloon. AMG provided the almighty 6.3 V8 motor which altered the course of history and how big sedans were viewed. AMG and Mercedes have since been under the same roof pumping out some of histories craziest performance cars all centered around the mega 6.3 V8!
These 300SEL Limousine’s were strikingly quick for the times – 0-100km/h in 6.6 sec for a 2 ton sedan that could fly over 200km/h. Business men, CEO’s and Dictators around the world rejoiced!
At the time of the release it was the fastest four door car with loads of standard features like, Air Suspension, ventilated 4 wheel power disc brakes, power windows, central locking, Air conditioning, power steering and much more what you would find in a modern day car.
These cars were so fast for the times, the German’s built a few racing cars, namely the “Red Pig” where the engine were enlarged to a even bigger 6.8 liters capacity. On debut, the now famously ‘Red Pig’ came 2nd in the 24hours of SPA in 1971 outright and cleaned up first in class. Not long after, Mercedes entered the 24hrs of Hockenheim and won race outright – a complete out of the ordinary phenomenon for the day for what was essentially a road car being raced. The big AMG engine was immortalized in history for ever more as it can still be seen today in AMG sports super sedans!
A total of 6526 units were produced and today these vehicles are very collectable with very few RHD’s ever going under the hammer.
The car in the spotlight is dressed in Ivory with a brown leather interior. 2 owners from new and its always been a high veld car and been stored indoors most of its life. The original leather seats are still in good condition with normal wear and tear. The exterior has been resprayed at some point in its life however it’s still in good condition. This specific model came in an Automatic transmission like 600 Limousine model.
This is a really rare car and the real collector will know the potential of parking this in his garage as this will outshine most modern day AMG models.
