1977 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Transmission: Automatic

Mileage: 70789km

Colour: Black

1977 was an interesting year in history with both cars and the world.

Let’s start with the world, The Star Wars Movies series came to the Big Screen, Jimmy Carter was Elected President, a small Alaskan Oil pipeline was completed, and Concord took flight on its first commercial flight. And may he Rest in Peace the King of Rock in Roll Elvis Presley died of a heart attack.

In the world of cars, you could buy a Renault Gordini for $6998.00 new, and the Americans gave the car world large V8’s like the Lincoln Continental, the Oldsmobile Toronado with its T top roof and the Chevy Camaro Z28 Gen 2.

So that brings me to some background on the Z28 and our vehicle. The Second-generation was basically an all-new car with its basic mechanical layout familiar and engineered much like the Gen one with the Unibody structure utilizing a front subframe, A-arm and coil spring front suspension, and rear leaf springs.

The Second Gen had styling changes nearly every year and with the fuel crisis the engines changed as well. With the build life span of 11 years from 1970 at 1981 the Gen two was never the same year on year. And was third gen in the 80’s brings in the design style of all things square,

So Z28 is known as a running project, yes its in need of a restoration to bring it back to a 9 or 10/10 car. But their value is going up so its worth a build, this project has been started and the interior is completed in leather on the seats and dashboard, the door cards are in good condition as well as the carpets.

The 350 Cu Engine is a runner and sounds healthy with the 4 Barrel Holley on a spacer to help RAM air takes that pop through the bonnet, feeding it with cold air for better breathing. The gearbox seems to work, but the brakes do need some attention. Having not driven it far, it’s hard to talk about the ride but the five spoke alloys are wrapped in Hercules H/P4000 Rubber.

The paint work is what is needing the work and once that is sorted, she will shine and draw the attention that she needs. Overall, the car is complete and would make a great weekend project over several months at no great cost to get the parts.

If you are looking for an America Muscle project then this is up your street and ready for grabs.
